5 Simple Ways Parents Can Support Learning in the PYP

Mahdavi Educational Foundation | English Medium Stream

At Mahdavi Educational Foundation, we believe families are essential partners in a child’s educational journey. In the PYP, students grow through inquiry, reflection, and meaningful action. Here’s how you can support your child at home:

1. Encourage Inquiry
Invite your child to ask questions and explore. Instead of giving answers, ask, “What do you think?” or “How could we find out?” This builds curiosity and critical thinking.

2. Connect to Big Ideas
Help your child relate everyday moments to larger concepts like responsibility, change, or systems. Ask questions like, “How is this connected to what you learned today?”

3. Make Time for Reflection
Talk about their day: “What did you enjoy? What was hard? What would you do differently?” Reflection deepens learning and builds self-awareness.

4. Give Thoughtful Feedback
Focus on effort and progress. Say, “You worked really hard on this,” or “What’s your next step?” This encourages a growth mindset.

5. Promote Agency
Let your child make small choices in their learning—what to read, when to study, or how to present ideas. This builds ownership and confidence.

Together, We Inspire Lifelong Learners
By working together, families and the school create a nurturing environment where every child can grow with confidence, curiosity, and joy.
